Mark Laing
Instructor Mark Laing started training casually at Sydney City HQ in mid-2000. He commenced the Academy’s Certificate IV Course in Wing Chun Instruction in February, 2001. After graduating, he opened his own school, Hornsby Wing Chun, and became an affiliate of the IWCA in March, 2003.
Inst. Mark says the reason he signed on at the Academy was the relaxed, friendly atmosphere where questions were welcomed and encouraged. Knowing the reason for certain exercises or techniques made learning easier and more enjoyable. As his training has progressed, he still finds there is much more to learn, and is constantly amazed and inspired by the skills of the Academy’s Senior Instructors.
He says: “Wing Chun is a lot more than just an extremely effective method of self defence. At its core, I see it as learning an entirely different (superior) way to move our body. As a result, it has fundamentally altered how I interact with the physical world. Even when I’m not training, Wing Chun is always present in the back of my mind. I firmly believe that any form of human movement - be it sport, dance, manual labour, or just getting around in day to day life - can benefit from training in Wing Chun.”
